Wyse Technology has the broadest product line of all the thin-client manufacturers. We tested two systems, the Winterm 2510SE ($900 street), an all-in-one monitor and CPU system, and the Winterm 2310SE ($730 street, sold without monitor), a more standard Windows terminal. The company's well-thought-out products and service offerings make either system a good choice.

Both units target corporations that already have terminals and are looking to upgrade to clients that can run ASCII/ANSI applications (through the Citrix server connection), Windows applications, or both. The Winterm 2510SE is also Wyse's low-cost solution for departments that are just now moving to computers.

Setting up either Wyse terminal is a snap. The systems can also be very easily set up for single or multiple users running a variety of applications; setup configurations are stored on the server. The firmware on individual systems can be upgraded easily via a flash memory update; simultaneous multiple-terminal updates can also be handled from the server through WyseWorks Remote Administrator Server software. Both systems have a Type II PC Card slot, and upgrading to 100Base-T is an option, but all additional components, by design, remain external.

Despite housing the CPU, the Winterm 2510SE is not noticeably larger than a typical monitor. All ports appear on the back of the unit, and a large power switch is clearly visible on the front. The unit does not run at 1,024-by-768 resolution but at 800-by-600, and it comes with 1MB of graphics RAM.

The sleek Winterm 2310SE has the smallest footprint of any unit in this roundup, at 10 by 4 by 7 inches. We have one complaint: The power button is sensitive and improperly placed, making it easy to turn the unit on or off unintentionally.

Windows CE will be supported when available. Telephone technical support is available weekdays from 3:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. (eastern time).

Both units garnered respectable scores on our tests, and both are excellent Windows terminals.
